On Friday 30 June, the IRIS-CC presented the necessary documentation to request authorisation for the constitution and operation of the institute’s biobank.
A research biobank collects and stores biological samples of human origin, organised as a technical unit with criteria of quality, order and destination, for the purpose of diagnosis or biomedical research. To carry out these activities, the constitution and operation of a biobank for biomedical research purposes requires prior authorisation from the competent body, which in this case is the General Directorate for Health Planning and Research of the Department of Health of the Generalitat of Catalonia.
The IRIS-CC biobank is scheduled to start operations in November 2023.
