Alfonso Valencia’s lecture on AI in the health and life sciences

ICREA Professor Alfonso Valencia, Director of the Department of Life Sciences at the Barcelona Supercomputing Center, has been the first speaker of the new cycle “IRIS-CC: Conferences”.

On Monday, May 27, the UVIC-UCC Auditorium hosted the conference in Valencia, which stated that the great advances in computing, programming capabilities and the development of artificial intelligence tools (generative AI, conversational tools-ChatGPT) will represent a technological revolution with a great impact on the economy, education and decision-making in life sciences and health.

The professor showed the new capabilities of the Barcelona Supercomputing Center, which will be able to develop conversational tools in the official languages of the Spanish state; as well as the development of digital twins (“virtual twins”), this will allow all kinds of applications to be used in real-world artificial models.

The director of IRIS-CC, José Jerónimo Navas, and the president of the institute and rector of the UVIC-UCC, Josep Eladi Baños, also took part in the event. The following sessions of the “IRIS-CC: Conferences” cycle will continue to invite leading professionals in relevant health issues, such as Alzheimer’s and Cancer.
